OnePlus claims the No.1 Premium Smartphone of 2019. In the year 2019 Smartphone Shipment in premium segments for the price above Rs. 30,000 grew up to 29% of YOY growth. Its record high number in 2019 in the premium segments. The premium segment smartphone market share increased with the help of three brands – OnePlus, Samsung & Apple.
OnePlus: The No.1 Premium Smartphone
In 2019, OnePlus is the No.1 premium smartphone brand with more than 2 Million Smartphone shipments & 28% of YOY growth as per Counterpoint research. It captures the one third of shipments in India premium segment. Then on the OnePlus Ultra-premium segment for price above Rs. 45,000 it grew to 25% of YOY growth in 2019. OnePlus driven more shipments in 2019 because of OnePlus 7 Pro.
OnePlus emerges in 2019 with a launch of multiple product launch. Earlier, OnePlus launches only two products a year with a regular & T model but in 2019, OnePlus expand the models with PRO models.
The OnePlus shipments cross 2 Million smartphones by implementing a new unique feature, user updates, Industry latest benchmark specifications, latest Processors and instant Android Updates than other brands. Last year, OnePlus brings the 90Hz screen refresh rate feature in-display that engage users a lot also, more brands follow the same like OnePlus 90Hz display.
Samsung & Apple at 2nd & 3rd Position
Next to OnePlus, Samsung captured the second position in India premium smartphone segment. Samsung declined by 2% in actual on compare with OnePlus. Overall, Samsung premium smartphone shipments reached 79% in 2019. Samsung driven with a Galaxy S10 plus mobile, and offers, price cuts.
Followed by OnePlus & Samsung, Apple takes the third position. Apple is the fastest growing premium smartphone in 2019 having 41% of YOY growth. In 2019, Apple driven by multiple prices drops on the iPhone XR. Likewise, iPhone XR is one of the best premium smartphones in India, next to the Samsung Galaxy S10 plus & OnePlus 7 Pro. Also, Apple launches the iPhone 11 series with an aggressive price segment.
Apple is now started its production in India itself. Therefore, by next year, Apple will launch products at less price compared to the current price point. So, there is more possibility for Apple to become a No.1 smartphone in 2020. Similarly, Samsung introduced the lite version of Galaxy S10 & Note 10 models to compete with OnePlus premium segment price range.
Overall growth of premium segment smartphones driven by help of offers, price cuts, No cost EMI facility, improved technology and features in phones. Also, nowadays more brands are moving on to premium segments like Realme (Realme X2 Pro), Oppo (Oppo Reno 2), Redmi (Redmi K30 Pro), Asus (Asus 6Z). Therefore, the upcoming year will be more competitive in premium segment smartphones.
