Redmi recently launched a Redmi 8A mobile phone on the month of September and its an upgrade of Redmi 7A which launched earlier on 2018. The Redmi 8A first look & initial impression gives the good feel on its design especially. It launched in two memory variants likely, 2GB + 32GB & 3GB + 32GB which priced for Rs. 6,499 & Rs. 6,999, respectively. Now let find the Redmi 8A initial impression & quick review. 

Redmi 8A Specification

The Redmi 8A having a 156.4*75.41*9.4mm dimension and 188g of weight, it sports with 6.22-inch HD+ Dot notch display with gorilla glass 5 protection. The display features 19:9 aspect ratio, 88.8% screen to body ratio. It made of polycarbonate plastic material designed in Ocean Blue, Sunset Red & Midnight Black color variant. In this article I have used the Redmi 8A Ocean Blue color variant. 

On imaging, the Redmi 8a having single rear camera with 12-megapixel resolution at F/1.8 aperture setting based on Sony IMX363 sensor. Likewise, on the front, an 8MP selfie located inside the dot-notch design. It powered by Snapdragon 439 octa-core processor, it clocks up to 2.0GHz speed. It combined with two RAM variants 2GB & 3GB with 32GB internal storage.
In terms of security, it has face unlock support with the help of an 8-megapixel selfie camera and there is no more physical fingerprint sensor. It powers with 5000mAH battery with 18W fast charging support and chargeble through USB type-C port. Finally, in terms of connectivity, the Redmi 8A supports 3.5mm audio jack, USB type-C charging port, Bluetooth V4.2, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz, Wireless FM Radio, dedicated SD card slot, and dual Nano SIM with dual VoLTE support. 

Redmi 8A Physical Overview

The Redmi 8A made of plastic material at rear & sides of the device and on rear equipped a single camera at the center of the device beneath LED flash is located. After that, Redmi branding & Designed by Xiaomi named at rear panel and moving around the front, it has Dot notch design inside located with Selfie camera. Then, on the chin named Redmi branding similarly, the bezels are narrow and thin compared to predecessor. At the forehead, the earpiece is located and on top secondary microphone placed, the left & right side having card slot & volume keys, power button, respectively. Finally, at the bottom, 3.5mm audio jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille is located. 

Redmi 8A Design

On the first time using the Redmi 8A the first thing I feel is its design, the Redmi 8A has new Aura wave grip design which gives good comfort on holding the device. Similarly, the design is fingerprint proofing so, there is no more fingerprint touch mark on the rear panel. However, the device is made of polycarbonate plastic material but eventhough it gives the premium look & feel. Thanks for the new Aura design with three refreshing color variants of Sunset Red, Midnight Black & finally, Ocean Blue color which I currently holding on my hand. 

Redmi 8a Display

The Redmi 8a sport with 6.22-inch HD+ display with 1520*720 pixel resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio and 88.84% of screen to body ratio. The display is based on IPS panel with Corning Gorilla glass 5 support.

The display features with low blue light for long lasting view. Similarly, the Redmi 8A display supported with Sunlight mode, Night mode, and Reading mode. Also, it has color temperature adjustment option, using that I adjust display as per my wish for better comfort on viewing & reading via display.

Redmi 8a Camera 

The Redmi 8a had come with a similar camera specification of predecessor Redmi 7a. It equip with single rear camera with 8MP resolution but this time Redmi brings the Sony IMX363 sensor. However, it’s a flagship sensor used in the flagship phones like Poco F1, and Google Pixel mobile phones.

The rear camera features with auto focus phase detection, HDR mode, AI Beautify V4.0, AI Scene detection. Also, the Redmi 8A doesn’t equipped with dedicated portrait sensor but instead, Redmi brings AI Portrait feature via software optimisation for Portrait shots. The Redmi 8A rear camera supports 1080p video recording at 30 frames per second. Also, 720p video recording in 60fps and 30fps support.
Likewise, on the front, it has 8-megapixel selfie camera housed inside the dot drop notch display. It has F/2.0 aperture setting and features AI Beautify 4.0, AI Portrait mode, and HDR mode.

Redmi 8a Performance

The Redmi 8a powered by Snapdragon 432 octa-core processor it’s a similar one powered in the predecessor Redmi 7a. It fabricated on 12nm process technology and architecture with ARM Cortex A53 with 8 cores at 2.0GHz clock speed. It runs on the top with MIUI 10 based on Android Pie. On storage, it has two RAM variants 2GB & 3GB with 32GB internal storage. Also, it can be expanded further, with the help of dedicated SD card slot. 

 

In terms of battery, the Redmi 8a powered with 5000mAH with 18W fast charging support. Also, it support with USB type-C port therefore, charging is faster.

Final verdict

The Redmi 8a is one of the best budget mobile phone in this price range. It has most highlight features like a 6.22-inch drop notch HD+ display, 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 camera, Aura Wave design, 5000mAH battery with 18W fast charging and USB type-C port. In contrast to that, the Redmi 8a has still powered with same processor as in the predecessor. But, it still a good mobile phone on this price segment.
